It is an astronomical interval dressed in symbolic language: Saturn orbits the Sun once every 29.4571 tropical years, or 10,759.22 days, so the conjunction recurs near ages 29, 59, and 88. This calculator adds whole multiples of that mean period to the birth date, then flags a window of roughly 2.5 years around each hit, because Saturn spends about two and a half years crossing each 30 degree sign and typically makes three exact passes over the natal degree once retrograde motion is counted. Saturn turns retrograde once a year for about four and a half months, backing up roughly 7 degrees before resuming direct motion. Two limits matter. First, the mean period is an average: Saturn's orbital eccentricity of about 0.056 means it travels faster near perihelion and slower near aphelion, so an individual first return can land anywhere from roughly age 27 to age 30 depending on where in the orbit the natal degree falls. Second, an exact return depends on the degree and minute of natal Saturn, which requires birth time and place; averaged arithmetic like this typically lands within a few months of the ephemeris date. Saturn is the slowest of the five planets visible without a telescope, and its cycle was measured long before it was interpreted. Babylonian astronomers tracking it in the goal-year texts of the first millennium BCE used a 59-year period for Saturn, which is two orbits to within a few days, and used it to predict where the planet would next appear.
