Frequently Asked Questions
What is the MRV fee for US visas?
The Machine Readable Visa (MRV) fee is the base application fee required for most US visa applications. It is non-refundable and must be paid before scheduling a visa interview. The fee varies by visa category: $185 for most non-immigrant visas (B1/B2, F1), $215 for petition-based work visas (H1B, L1, O1), $265 for K1 fiance visas, and $315-$345 for treaty investor and immigrant visas. Fees are subject to change.
What is the SEVIS fee?
The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fee is required for F1, M1, and J1 visa applicants. For F1 and M1 students, the fee is $350. For J1 exchange visitors, the fee is $220. This fee must be paid before the visa interview and is separate from the MRV application fee. It funds the system that tracks international students and exchange visitors in the US.
Are US visa fees refundable?
The MRV visa application fee is generally non-refundable, regardless of whether the visa is approved or denied. However, it remains valid for scheduling an interview for 12 months from the date of payment. SEVIS fees are also non-refundable. Premium processing fees may be refunded if USCIS fails to process the petition within the guaranteed timeframe.
