Formula
Total = (Dimes x $0.10) + (Quarters x $0.25) + (Nickels x $0.05) + (Pennies x $0.01)
Each US coin has a fixed face value: dime = 10 cents, quarter = 25 cents, nickel = 5 cents, penny = 1 cent. Multiply the count of each denomination by its value, sum the results, and divide by 100 to get the dollar amount. Weight is calculated using official US Mint specifications for each coin type.
Worked Examples
Example 1: Counting a Dime Collection
Problem:You have 250 dimes saved in a jar. How many dollars is that worth?
Solution:Dollars = Dimes * $0.10\n= 250 * 0.10 = $25.00\nRolls = 250 / 50 = 5 rolls\nWeight = 250 * 2.268g = 567g = 1.25 lbs
Result:250 dimes = $25.00 = 5 rolls = 567g (1.25 lbs)
Example 2: Mixed Coin Jar Total
Problem:Count a jar containing 80 dimes, 30 quarters, 45 nickels, and 120 pennies.
Solution:Dimes: 80 * $0.10 = $8.00\nQuarters: 30 * $0.25 = $7.50\nNickels: 45 * $0.05 = $2.25\nPennies: 120 * $0.01 = $1.20\nTotal = $18.95
Result:275 coins = $18.95 total value
