Formula
Curtain Width = Rod Width x Fullness | Cut Length = Drop + Hem + Header
Rod width is the window width plus side extensions for outside mounts. Multiply by fullness ratio for total curtain width. Cut length adds hem and header allowances to the desired drop length.
Worked Examples
Example 1: Standard Living Room Window
Problem:A window measures 120 cm wide by 150 cm high. Outside mount with 15 cm side extensions, 15 cm drop extension, 2x fullness, 10 cm hem, and 5 cm header.
Solution:Rod width = 120 + (15 x 2) = 150 cm\nTotal curtain width = 150 x 2 = 300 cm\nWidth per panel = 300 / 2 = 150 cm\nCurtain drop = 150 + 15 = 165 cm\nFabric cut length = 165 + 10 + 5 = 180 cm\nWidth panels (at 137 cm fabric) = ceil(300/137) = 3\nFabric needed = 3 x 1.80 = 5.40 meters
Result:Curtain: 300 cm wide x 165 cm drop | Fabric: 5.40 meters needed
Example 2: Inside Mount Bedroom Window
Problem:A window recess is 90 cm wide and 180 cm high. Inside mount with 2.5x fullness, 12 cm hem, 8 cm header.
Solution:Rod width = 90 cm (inside mount, no extension)\nTotal curtain width = 90 x 2.5 = 225 cm\nWidth per panel = 225 / 2 = 112.5 cm\nCurtain drop = 180 cm (no extension)\nFabric cut length = 180 + 12 + 8 = 200 cm\nWidth panels (at 137 cm fabric) = ceil(225/137) = 2\nFabric needed = 2 x 2.00 = 4.00 meters
Result:Curtain: 225 cm wide x 180 cm drop | Fabric: 4.00 meters needed
