Formula

T = [(S(1-ฮฑ)) / (4ฮตฯƒ)]^(1/4)

Stefan-Boltzmann equilibrium: incoming solar radiation (absorbed) equals outgoing longwave radiation. ฯƒ = 5.67ร—10โปโธ W/mยฒKโด.

Worked Examples

Example 1: Earth

Problem:S=1361, albedo=0.30, emissivity=0.612

Solution:T = [(1361ร—0.7)/(4ร—0.612ร—5.67e-8)]^0.25 = 288 K = 15ยฐC

Result:288 K (15ยฐC)
