Formula

Thousands = Millions x 1,000

One million equals one thousand thousands. Multiply millions by 1,000 to get thousands, or divide thousands by 1,000 to get millions. To get the raw number, multiply millions by 1,000,000 or thousands by 1,000.

Worked Examples

Example 1: Corporate Revenue Conversion

Problem:A company reports revenue of 3.75 million dollars. Express this in thousands.

Solution:Thousands = Millions x 1,000\nThousands = 3.75 x 1,000 = 3,750\nIn ones = 3.75 x 1,000,000 = 3,750,000

Result:3.75 million = 3,750 thousand = 3,750,000

Example 2: Budget Report Conversion

Problem:A department budget is listed as 250 thousand. Convert to millions.

Solution:Millions = Thousands / 1,000\nMillions = 250 / 1,000 = 0.25\nIn ones = 250 x 1,000 = 250,000

Result:250 thousand = 0.25 million = 250,000
