How is punch power calculated?

Kinetic energy (KE) = half times mass times velocity squared. Impact force = mass times velocity divided by contact time. A faster punch or shorter contact time produces dramatically higher force, which is why technique matters more than raw body size.

Why does punch speed matter more than body weight for power?

Because kinetic energy scales with the square of velocity but only linearly with mass, doubling your punch speed quadruples the kinetic energy delivered, while doubling your effective fist mass only doubles it. This is why smaller, faster fighters can generate surprising knockout power, and why boxing coaches spend so much time on hip rotation, weight transfer, and snap technique rather than simply telling fighters to add muscle mass.
