Formula
Daily Intake = 2.5 oz per pound of body weight | Per Feeding = Daily Total / Feedings
Formula-fed babies need approximately 2.5 oz of formula per pound of body weight per day, up to about 32 oz maximum. This is divided by the number of feedings. Amount decreases after 6 months as solids are introduced.
Worked Examples
Example 1: 11 lb baby
Problem:11 lbs, 4 months, 6 feedings/day
Solution:Daily: 11 x 2.5 = 27.5 oz. Per feeding: 27.5/6 = 4.6 oz
Result:27.5 oz/day, 4.6 oz per feeding
