Formula
Age = Future Date - Birth Date
The age is calculated by finding the difference between the future date and your birth date. Full years are counted by checking whether the birthday has passed in the target year. Remaining months and days are computed using calendar arithmetic that accounts for varying month lengths and leap years.
Worked Examples
Example 1: Planning for a Milestone Year
Problem:A person born on June 15, 1990 wants to know how old they will be on January 1, 2030.
Solution:Birth date: June 15, 1990\nTarget date: January 1, 2030\nYears: 2030 - 1990 = 40, but birthday has not passed in 2030\nAge on Jan 1, 2030: 39 years, 6 months, 17 days\nDays from today to target: varies by current date\nTotal days alive: approximately 14,445 days\nNext birthday after target: June 15, 2030 (166 days later)
Result:Age: 39 years, 6 months, 17 days | ~14,445 days alive
Example 2: Child Starting School
Problem:A child born March 10, 2020 - how old will they be on September 1, 2025 when school starts?
Solution:Birth date: March 10, 2020\nSchool start: September 1, 2025\nYears: 2025 - 2020 = 5, birthday has passed\nAge: 5 years, 5 months, 22 days\nTotal days alive: 2,002 days\nNext birthday: March 10, 2026 (190 days away)
Result:Age: 5 years, 5 months, 22 days | Old enough for kindergarten
