Formula

Converted = (Input x From Unit Count) / To Unit Count

Each quantity unit represents a fixed number of individual items: pair = 2, half dozen = 6, dozen = 12, bakers dozen = 13, score = 20, gross = 144, great gross = 1,728, ream = 500. Convert by multiplying the input by its unit count, then dividing by the target unit count.

Worked Examples

Example 1: Converting Gross to Dozens and Units

Problem: A manufacturer ships 5 gross of buttons. How many dozens and individual units is that?

Solution: Units = gross x 144\nUnits = 5 x 144 = 720 units\nDozens = 720 / 12 = 60 dozen\nScores = 720 / 20 = 36 scores

Result: 5 gross = 720 units = 60 dozen = 36 scores

Example 2: Dozen to Other Counting Units

Problem: A store has 30 dozen eggs. Convert to gross, scores, and pairs.

Solution: Units = 30 x 12 = 360\nGross = 360 / 144 = 2.5 gross\nScores = 360 / 20 = 18 scores\nPairs = 360 / 2 = 180 pairs

Result: 30 dozen = 360 units = 2.5 gross = 18 scores
