Formula

Life Path = Reduce(Month) + Reduce(Day) + Reduce(Year), reduced to single digit or Master Number

Each component of the birth date (month, day, year) is reduced to a single digit by adding its digits together repeatedly. The three reduced values are summed and reduced again. If the result is 11, 22, or 33, it is kept as a Master Number and not reduced further. All other results are reduced to a single digit from 1 to 9.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Life Path Number in numerology?

The Life Path Number is considered the most important number in numerology. It is derived from your complete birth date and is believed to reveal your life's purpose, natural tendencies, and the opportunities and challenges you may encounter. It is calculated by reducing your birth date to a single digit (or a master number: 11, 22, or 33). Each number from 1-9 and the master numbers carry unique vibrations and meanings in numerological tradition.

How do you calculate a Life Path Number?

To calculate your Life Path Number: (1) Reduce each component of your birth date separately — month, day, and year — to a single digit or master number. (2) Add the three reduced numbers together. (3) If the sum is not a single digit or master number (11, 22, 33), reduce it further by adding its digits together. For example, for July 15, 1990: Month 7, Day 1+5=6, Year 1+9+9+0=19→1+9=10→1+0=1. Then 7+6+1=14→1+4=5. Life Path is 5.

What are Master Numbers in numerology?

Master Numbers are 11, 22, and 33. They are not reduced to a single digit because they are considered to carry amplified energy and higher spiritual purpose. 11 is the Intuitive — heightened spiritual awareness and inspiration. 22 is the Master Builder — the ability to turn dreams into reality on a grand scale. 33 is the Master Teacher — devoted to uplifting humanity through compassion. Master Numbers are relatively rare and are thought to indicate both greater potential and greater challenges.

Is numerology scientifically valid?

No. Numerology is not supported by scientific evidence. It is a belief system that assigns meaning to numbers, similar to astrology. Scientific studies have found no correlation between birth dates, numerical values, and personality traits or life outcomes. Numerology is best enjoyed as a form of self-reflection and entertainment rather than a predictive or diagnostic tool. Any insights gained should be taken as food for thought, not as factual descriptions of your character or destiny.

Can two people have the same Life Path Number but different personalities?

Absolutely. Life Path Numbers are very broad categories — roughly 1 in 9 people share each single-digit Life Path Number. Even within numerological tradition, the Life Path Number is just one of many numbers in a full numerology chart (which also includes Expression, Soul Urge, Birthday, and Personality numbers). Beyond numerology, personality is shaped by genetics, upbringing, experiences, culture, and countless other factors. Two people with the same Life Path will have very different lives and personalities.
